Ben Campbell and Nicholas de la Poer at Leeds Crown Court

18/02/2015

On 16 and 17 February 2015 acquittals were secured by Ben Campbell and Nicholas de la Poer in a trial involving a number of Romanian nationals accused of a conspiracy to steal cable from the rail network at Leeds Crown Court.

Loan Singeran was acquitted following Ben Campbell’s successful submission, prior to the swearing of the jury, that the DNA evidence said to link Mr Singeran to the thefts was inadmissible. Without it the prosecution conceded there was no case against Mr Singeran.

Romulas Muresan’s acquittal followed Nicholas de la Poer’s argument that identification evidence was tainted by multiple breaches of the PACE codes.
