Simon Phillips QC at Bradford Crown Court

Simon Phillips QC, instructed by CPS Complex Case Unit, prosecuted Rachel Bowen, a patient of Cygnet Hospital in Bradford, who pleaded guilty to the manslaughter by diminished responsibility of fellow patient Linda Goswell. Bowen admitted killing by suffocating. Following consideration of psychiatric evidence, the Recorder of Bradford sentenced the defendant to detention under the Mental Health Act, with restrictions as to the circumstances in which she might ultimately be eligible for release.
