Jason Pitter QC at Leeds Crown Court

Jason Pitter QC (leading Geraldine Kelly, Zenith Chambers) secured an acquittal on all counts for a defendant charged with murder and violent disorder based on upon joint enterprise following a six week trial at Leeds Crown Court. The allegation was that the Defendant participated in a violent disorder in which one of his group produced a knife and murdered a member of a rival group. That person was convicted of murder and sentenced to life and a further member of the group was convicted of manslaughter. The allegation of murder was stopped following detailed legal argument in relation to the law on joint enterprise and participation (along with two other co-accused). The jury subsequently returned verdicts of not guilty in respect of the remaining counts.
