Defendants sentenced at conclusion of the “Dark Ages” torture / murder trial

Jimmy Prout, a vulnerable man, was subjected to dreadful torture for a period of four months before, finally, he was killed. The torture included his scrotum being sliced open and his testicle cut out, with Jimmy then being forced to eat his testicle; his teeth being chiselled out of his jaw with work equipment and being forced to submit to intercourse with dogs. Once dead, his body was dumped in wasteland and his killers made substantial efforts to pretend that he was still alive.

Zahid Zaman, the ringleader was convicted of murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a direction that he serve at least 33 years before being eligible to apply for parole. Ann Corbett was also convicted of murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 27 years. Two other defendants, Kay Rayworth and Myra Wood were convicted of causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult and sentenced to lengthy determinate terms. The trial Judge was Dove J.
