Richard Holland successful before the Court of Appeal

On 29 June, Richard Holland appeared before the Court of Appeal sitting at Leeds Crown Court, heard by a panel made up of the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, Lord Thomas, together with Mr Justice Langstaff and Mr Justice Males.

Mr Holland was representing a youth who had been sentenced to an extended sentence of imprisonment for four offences committed whilst he was 16 of wounding with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against prison officers and fellow inmates whilst incarcerated in prison.

The appeal was allowed on both of the grounds advanced by Mr Holland, with the overall sentence reduced by 2 years.

In the course of their judgment, the Court commended Mr Holland’s submissions as “realistic and economic”, “sensitive and sensible” and “effectively argued”.

It was Mr Holland’s first appearance before the Court of Appeal.
