18/01/2019

Paul Massey and John Kinsella were alleged to be major gangland figures in the North West. They were murdered three years apart, Paul Massey in July 2015 and John Kinsella in May 2018. Paul Massey was executed outside his home by a gunman armed with a sub-machine gun and John Kinsella was killed as he walked his dog; the gunman shot him twice to the back with a handgun and then put two further bullets into the back of his head as he was prone on the ground. Mark Fellows and Steven Boyle were charged with the murders.

Paul Greaney QC prosecuted the trial at Liverpool Crown Court, leading Jaime Hamilton and Philip Barnes of 9 St.John’s Street Chambers. Mark Fellows was convicted of both murders and Steven Boyle was convicted of the murder of John Kinsella. Mr. Justice William Davis sentenced Fellows to a whole life term and Boyle to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 33 years.
