Nine men who raped and abused two teenage girls who had been in local authority care have been convicted of 22 offences, including rape and inciting child prostitution, have been jailed for over 130 years in total, following a 2 month trial at Bradford Crown Court.
Sharon Beattie prosecuted this case along with Miss Kama Melly QC (Park Square Barristers).
The girls were aged 14 when the men first began to use drink and drugs to groom and sexually exploit them and violence was used in the commission of some of the offences. The abuse started after the girls moved into a care home in 2008.
The case has received national media coverage and the current Director of Public Prosecutions, Max Hill QC, tweeted his thanks and congratulations.
The case was reported here:
This was an awful case, involving multiple rapes, justifying sentences of up to 20 years’ imprisonment. Thanks and congratulations to all on our @cpsuk team: counsel, prosecutors, paralegals and admin/operational support. https://t.co/CuIIwfP4u8
