Stephen Uttley successful in defence of attempted murder case

Stephen Uttley instructed by Shaikh Solicitors, Bradford, successfully defended a man charged with attempted murder and two Section 18 offences. The trial took place at Aylesbury Crown Court and lasted six days before The Recorder of Aylesbury.

The Prosecution alleged that the Defendant had deliberately driven his motor vehicle at the Complainant whilst he was on the pavement and after striking him had reversed his car over his leg causing serious injuries. It was further alleged that the Defendant had then got out of his car and stabbed the Complainant. During the course of the trial it was argued that the scene and forensic evidence did not support the Prosecution’s case, and that that the Prosecution could not establish an intention to kill or that the Defendant intended to cause really serious harm.

The jury unanimously acquitted the Defendant of attempted murder and the alternative offences of Section 18 GBH and Wounding.
