Junior members of New Park Court Criminal Team secure not guilty verdicts in recent serious criminal casework

Junior members of New Park Court Criminal Team have enjoyed recent successes in serious criminal casework both on Circuit and off Circuit.

Following a seven week trial at Birmingham Crown Court, Elyas Patel secured an acquittal for his client who was one of a number of Defendants charged with Attempted Murder, Kidnapping and Wounding with Intent. Rival factions had fought in the Balsall Heath area of the city in what detectives described as a ‘mini war’ linked to the drugs trade. For further details, click here

Richard Holland was instructed in the same trial and his defendant was acquitted following a successful submission of no case to answer at the conclusion of the Prosecution case. Following Richard’s submissions, the Judge directed the jury to find the Defendant not guilty of all charges he faced.

Other successes include those for Chris Smith and Stephen Uttley. Stephen defended a man charged with attempted murder and two Section 18 offences. Following a trial at Aylesbury Crown Court, the jury unanimously acquitted the Defendant of both counts. Chris Smith recently concluded a six week conspiracy to commit GBH trial, in Birmingham. His defendant was acquitted.

Tim Coulson, Chambers Director commented ‘this continued success demonstrates the strength and talent of the team here from the relatively junior to the more senior members of Chambers. At every level, including a growing cohort of specialist Silks, this Chambers continues to set the standard to which others aspire.’
