08/06/2020

Jason Pitter QC and Ben Campbell represented a T/Detective Superintendent at misconduct proceedings for alleged failings during the course of the investigation of the murder of an infant in 2016. That investigation had been initially led by the Officer. The proceedings were directed by the IOPC following complaints made by the Local Authority. The Allegations were complex and wide ranging in relation to his management and supervision of the investigation.

The case ran for 4 weeks in total, 3 of which were conducted during Covid 19 restrictions and were conducted entirely remotely, including the management of all witnesses and submissions.

The Officer was cleared of allegations. Allegations were found proved against two of his fellow officers.
