Jason Pitter QC and Adam Birkby appeared in the successful prosecution of the mother and her partner in relation to the tragic death of her two year old son. The partner was convicted of the murder of the child whilst the mother was convicted of allowing the death and neglect of her son and her as well as for neglect. The trial lasted 5 weeks and attracted widespread publicity, due to the nature of the injuries and the history of abusive injuries. The case featured complex medico legal issues in relation to causation of injuries, joint enterprise and the application of s5 of Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004.
