Independent report into Child Sexual Abuse in Football – March 2021. “Football’s darkest secret”
The Football Association have published Clive Sheldon QC’s “Independent Report into Child Sexual Abuse in Football” [Link Below] Included within the review is the case of George Ormond, who had links to a local youth team in Newcastle and to Newcastle United. This case, along with other similar ones, is the subject of a BBC documentary series, “Football’s Darkest Secret” presently being shown on BBC1.
Sharon Beattie QC and Felicity Hemlin, prosecuted the case of George Ormond at Newcastle Crown Court in 2018, instructed by Newcastle CPS . Ormond was convicted of 35 counts of indecent assault and one count of indecency in respect of multiple complainants and was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.
