Sharon Beattie QC and Georgina Goring prosecuted 15 members of an Organised Crime Group who were convicted of conspiracy to supply Class A and Class B drugs, six of the defendants were convicted following a 7 week trial in Teesside Crown Court, the others having admitted the allegations at an earlier stage.
They were convicted in respect of the supply of an estimated £1.5 million of Class A and Class B drugs from Liverpool to Cleveland and other areas of the country over a number of months. The Defendants were sentenced by The Recorder of Teesside, HHJ Paul Watson QC to a total of 86 years imprisonment.
The arrests and convictions followed the apprehension of one of the couriers, which had been captured by a television crew, whilst travelling on the A19 Northwards. This led to a police investigation and the apprehension of the other defendants.
