Jason Pitter QC and Ryan Donoghue appear for Officer in CSE misconduct investigation

01/04/2022

Jason Pitter QC (leading Ryan Donoghue) appeared for the former Officer facing allegations of misconduct arising from the IOPC investigation into the well documented failings by South Yorkshire Police in the investigation of child sexual exploitation in Rotherham.

The investigation (Op Linden) was one of the largest ever conducted by the IOPC in light of the “Jay Report “in 2014.  That independent inquiry concluded that over 1,400 children had suffered abuse and exploitation in the Rotherham area between 1997 and 2013 and identified systemic failings within South Yorkshire Police in the management of cases reported to them.  It has been the catalyst for significant reform.  The Officer was a Detective Sergeant in the force at that time.

The misconduct hearing examined those wider failings in clearing the Officer of 34 alleged personal failings in relation to the progress and management of cases involving 21 children and 16 suspects.   The IOPC will issue its final report in light of this outcome.

Jason Pitter and Ryan Donoghue were instructed by Tom Nutter  (RJW Legal).

The case was reported.
