David Outterside and Oliver Connor in successful county lines class A drug prosecution

29/07/2024

David Outterside leading Oliver Connor have successfully prosecuted a nine defendant county lines class A drug dealing and child trafficking conspiracy trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court. The trial began on 24th June 2024 and lasted 5 weeks. All nine Defendants were ultimately convicted including the main Defendant, Brian Asante, who gave evidence to the jury. Mr Asante was convicted of agreeing to traffic 14- and 16-year-old children, intending that they would deal class A drugs from ‘trap houses’ in Northamptonshire.

The gang, of which Brian Asante was the lead figure, operated out of Stafford and Wolverhampton, transporting children from West to East Midlands, where class A drugs were dealt on estates in Peterborough, Kettering, and Corby.

Less than one gram of heroin and crack cocaine were found by police in the whole of the investigation. However, David and Oliver were able to secure convictions against this large-scale drug dealing network by presenting evidence of at least six separate County drug telephone lines, including the ‘AB’ and ‘Jay’ lines (selling to East Midlands users) and a further fifteen separate relevant mobile phone numbers established in the investigation.

Defendants were charged with offences of class A supply and child trafficking arising out of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

HHJ Simon Ward was the trial Judge.

Both David and Oliver were instructed by the West Midlands complex case unit.
