Ashleigh Metcalfe prosecutes a man who threatened to kill Mr Ed Miliband MP by slitting his throat

The defendant, Michael Donaldson, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday for sentencing in respect of a threat to kill the MP for Doncaster North and, the now, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Mr Ed Miliband MP. On seeing Mr Miliband walking with his staff members in his constituency, the defendant approached the group whilst making threats to slit Mr Miliband’s throat; the defendant was seen to place a hand within his pocket at the time of making the threat. Mr Miliband was able to make it to a place of safety, locking the doors behind him whilst waiting for the police to attend. 

The defendant entered a guilty plea at a FCMH hearing in May 2024. At the sentencing hearing, the defendant received an immediate custodial sentence of three years imprisonment.
