Eleanor Fry represents General Medical Council at a Tribunal hearing against a doctor who smoked cannabis whilst on duty

12/03/2025

The doctor was smoking cannabis whilst on duty at a mental health hospital in Nottinghamshire.  The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service determined that the doctor’s actions amounted to serious misconduct but did not impose sanctions due to the doctor being under ‘considerable distress’ at the time. Whilst the Tribunal found that the doctor had put patients at harm, they determined that it was an isolated incident and due to extreme stress in his personal life.
