Channel 5 recently broadcast a documentary about the police investigation for a case Richard Holland successfully prosecuted at Grimsby Crown Court in October and November 2024.
The case involved the knitting together of CCTV, telephone download material and forensic scientific evidence to present a compelling case against the 4 defendants that they were part of an organised criminal plot to travel from London to Scunthorpe to assault and rob a man they had never met before but had been instructed to target whilst in possession of an imitation firearm and other weapons. The Defendants attempted to suggest they had been going to attend an auction in Doncaster, which they had missed, before ending up in Scunthorpe in search of further car parts, only for them to be attacked by the victim. Richard was able to prove to the Jury’s satisfaction that this was a tissue of lies.
The defendants are due to be sentenced in May 2025.
