Paul Greaney KC and Adam Birkby prosecute Manchester Airport case

01/08/2025

On 23 July 2024, a violent incident took place between police officers (including armed officers) and members of the public at Manchester Airport. That led to the trial of Mohammed Fahir Amaaz on charges accusing him of the assault of a member of the public and three police officers and his brother Muhammad Amaad on a charge of assaulting one of those police officers. Mohammed Fahir Amaaz was convicted of the assault on the member of the public and on two of the police officers. The jury was unable to decide the charge faced by both brothers in relation to a third police officer. A retrial is to take place on that charge. The case attracted substantial national and international press attention.

Paul and Adam were instructed by the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division.
