Eleanor Fry prosecuted Douglas Thomson, convicted after trial of the attempted murder of his wife and sentenced to 19 years’ imprisonment.

27/10/2025

Thomson attacked his wife, including with a hammer to the head, whilst expressing his clear intention to kill her.  When others intervened and the hammer was removed from him, he entered the kitchen of their home and obtained a large knife.  He was prevented from using this upon her by the intervention of neighbours, who kept him trapped in the kitchen until police arrived.  Thomson then used a different knife to stab himself in the chest, with the intention of ending his own life.
