Paul Greaney KC, together with Philip Astbury of 7 Harrington Street Chambers, prosecuted Paul Doyle who drove his Ford Galaxy into fans at the parade which had been organised for 26 May 2025 to celebrate Liverpool FC winning the 2024/2025 Premier League title. The case attracted national and international media attention. Just as the trial was to start, the defendant’s counsel indicated that he wished the Indictment to be put again. Paul Doyle then pleaded guilty to each of the 31 charges he faced. He will be sentenced at a two-day sentencing hearing on 15 and 16 December 2025. Paul Greaney and Philip Astbury were instructed by Mairead Neeson and James Allison of the CPS.
