Paul Greaney KC’s Report on Room Security at Travelodge Hotels Published

02/10/2026

Paul Greaney KC was commissioned by Travelodge to carry out an independent review of room security and other issues arising out of a notorious incident at Travelodge Maidenhead.  The incident involved a man obtaining the key to a young woman’s room from hotel reception by a deception, then using that key to enter the room and sexually assault the young woman.   Paul delivered his final Report to the Board of Travelodge on 21 September 2026, and it was published by Travelodge on 1 October 2026.   The Report, which attracted national and international media attention, can be found here and the response of Travelodge here.  The Travelodge Review forms part of Paul’s ongoing interest in security related issues which has seen him, for example, speak on terrorist threat to COBR and contribute to a paper by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office and act as Counsel to the Manchester Arena Inquiry and the Omagh Bombing Inquiry.

Paul was supported in his review by a team at Addleshaw Goddard (Lee Hughes, Priscilla Addo-Quaye, Cia Risbridger and Lucy Brown) and by Dr. Anna Hopkins (an expert in VAWG) and Dr. Michael McDonagh (an expert in safety, security and operational resilience).
