Background

Amy Levitt has an established family and criminal law barrister practice.

She regularly undertakes instructions in complex public and private law family proceedings and has considerable experience representing parents, grandparents, guardians and local authorities in care proceedings within the Family Court. She frequently conducts complex finding of fact hearings including cases where allegations of sexual and physical abuse have been sought. She has particular expertise in analysing complex expert reports and dealing with parents with learning disabilities.

Amy has been instructed extensively on private law Children Act cases often involving intractable contact disputes, domestic violence, psychological and psychiatric reports and enforcement of contact orders.

Her criminal barrister practice encompasses general crime, violence, sexual assault, theft, harassment and various road traffic offences. Amy has experience of dealing with cases involving young and vulnerable victims. She is praised for her robust approach in court, whilst outside of court, she has an approachable and reassuring manner with clients and witnesses, with whom she is quick to establish a rapport.

Amy became a member of New Park Court Chambers in 2017 after successfully completing her pupillage under the supervision of Nicholas De La Poer. Prior to that, Amy was with Squire Patton Boggs, and she also spent a considerable period working in Germany at Glade Michel Wirtz in Düsseldorf where she also studied German Law at Universität Trier.

Expertise

Amy regularly appears in the Crown Courts on behalf of both the defence and Crown Prosecution Service. Amy has conducted a numerous trials and sentencing hearings including matters of violence, sexual assault, theft, harassment and various road traffic offences. Amy has experience of dealing with cases involving young and vulnerable victims.

Amy has experience of representing the Local Authority at case management and final hearings, as well as representing Respondents and Children’s Guardians in contested final hearings.

Represented a grandmother pro bono in a lengthy final hearing where there were a number of allegations made.

Represented a mother in a 10 day final hearing concerning adoption breakdown whereby a number of serious allegations were made. Involved cross-examination of a consultant psychologist.

Represented a father with complex additional needs at a final hearing.

Amy is regularly instructed in a range of private law proceedings under the Children Act 1989, representing both Applicants and Respondents.

Amy has represented parents in fact-finding hearings and final hearings where serious allegations such as sexual abuse and violence have been made. Amy regularly undertakes instructions in complex and lengthy fact-finding hearings.

Represented the mother in a finding of fact as to habitual residence at the relevant date to determine jurisdiction.

Represented the mother in a 7 day final hearing whereby a number of allegations were made and evidence required of a number of professional witnesses.

Represented the mother in a fact-finding hearing, securing findings on all allegations which including sexual assault and physical violence.

Amy has appeared in multiple road traffic trials for both claimants and defendants. Amy also composes advices in relation to road traffic accidents and has experience of stage 3 hearings.

Amy also has experience of TOLATA claims, in one case securing a declaration of a common intention constructive trust and of a 100% beneficial interest in relation to the concerned property.
