Antonia Adie has a busy practice prosecuting and defending both crime and regulatory cases and regularly appears in the Crown Court.
She is instructed in a broad range of criminal cases, including drug offences, violent assaults, sexual offences and dishonesty. She has experience of appearing for both the prosecution and defence in Crown Court trials involving the use of interpreters, intermediaries and expert evidence.
Antonia has a natural confidence that she carries into her practice, and her calm and approachable manner puts lay clients and witnesses at ease both inside and outside of court. Her careful and determined work ethic has produced positive results in the Crown Court, Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court appeals.
Antonia successfully completed her pupillage in 2024, under the supervision of Lee Fish. She is currently appointed as a Grade 2 advocate on the Crown Prosecution Service panel and has undertaken advocacy training.
Antonia completed her Master’ in Law and Bar Course at Northumbria University, achieving First Class Honours. As an alumna of Northumbria University, she has been invited back to the University, where she has engaged with Bar Course Students, participating in Q&A lectures and acting as a mentor for current Bar Course Students.
Represented a client charged with being concerned in the supply of class B drugs and possession with intent to supply class B drugs. Antonia was successful in opposing the prosecution’s application to admit the defendant’s bad character relating to impending prosecutions. Antonia’s client was acquitted unanimously after just 12 minutes of jury deliberation.
Represented a client charged with violent disorder. Antonia carefully analysed the identification evidence in the case and successfully argued that the Crown could not prove the case against her client. The prosecution offered no evidence and her client was acquitted.
Represented the Crown in a case involving making indecent images of a child (categories A, B & C). Antonia successfully made an application to admit the defendant’s bad character into evidence and went on to successfully oppose the defence submission of no case to answer. The defendant was convicted unanimously on all three counts.
Represented a defendant at sentence in the Court Martial for an offence of sexual assault. Following successful submissions in mitigation, the Court refrained from dismissing the defendant from the Armed Forces and imposed a sentence of service detention.
