Chloe Hudson’s complementary barrister practice encompasses criminal and regulatory work for both the defence and the prosecution. Her particular areas of specialism are cases with a medical aspect and sexual offences.
The General Medical Council regularly instructs her to appear at Fitness to Practise Hearings, which gives her substantial specialist knowledge to bring to criminal work with a medical element and involving expert witnesses. The hearings cover all aspects of professional misconduct by doctors, including deficient professional performance, and often involve extremely sensitive subject matter. Chloe has worked on many high-profile cases that have received national media coverage.
Since 2012 Chloe has been an external lecturer to medical students at Manchester Medical School, the University of Manchester, on the law and procedure of the General Medical Council and Medical Practitioners’ Tribunal Service.
Chloe has a busy practice encompassing all areas of criminal litigation in the Crown Court. She is a Level 4 Prosecutor and is on the Crown Prosecution Service Rape and Child Sexual Abuse list of specialist prosecutors. Chloe regularly appears, for both the prosecution and the defence, in a range of cases dealing with serious crime, including murder, manslaughter, serious sexual assaults, organised crime, drugs and violence. Having dealt with many cases involving serious sexual crimes, she is empathetic and alert to the sensitive nature of such investigations.
Chloe has enjoyed notable success in cases, including in 2021, leading Ashleigh Metcalfe, when she prosecuted James Macken for the murder of Daniel Jeffries. The Defendant was found guilty after a three-week trial and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum period of 16 years.
Led by Nicholas Lumley KC, Chloe was a finalist in the Dennis Hoban Award for Crime Investigation awarded by the Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police for their work on Operation Panelmill, the investigation into the death of Tyron Charles, who was shot in a shipping container in Bradford in 2018 and then buried on moors near Oxenhope. James Sutcliffe was sentenced to 31 years’ imprisonment for the murder. Chief Constable John Robins, stated:

Whatever the background of the case, Chloe provides strong, focused advocacy in court and is robust in her defence of the unjustly accused. She undertakes drafting and advisory work in all areas of her practice, is a popular choice of junior and enjoys a significant amount of led work.

Chloe has expertise in dealing with cases involving non-accidental injuries to babies and small children, particularly those with concurrent family proceedings. She recently prosecuted a so called ‘shaken baby’ case involving the leading experts in this field of medicine being led by Dafydd Enoch KC.

In February and March 2021, leading Ashleigh Metcalfe, Chloe Hudson prosecuted James Macken for the murder of Daniel Jeffries. The Defendant was found guilty after a three week trial and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum period of 16 years.
Acted for the prosecution of a youth charged with manslaughter at Leeds Crown Court. The Defendant, aged 16 at the time of the killing, punched the deceased causing fatal injuries. The evidence focused particularly on the issue of causation, the deceased having a number of pre existing medical conditions. The case was heard by the Recorder of Leeds.
Led by Nicholas Lumley KC, prosecuted James Sutcliffe, who shot the deceased in the head in a shipping container in Denholme, Bradford. The trial Judge, Mr Justice Lavender sentenced the Defendant to 31 years’ imprisonment.
Led by Jason Pitter KC, prosecuted two Defendants charged with murder following a dispute amongst the Romanian community in Grimsby.
