As a Tier 1 Set based in Leeds and Newcastle we are home to a number of high profile and nationally and internationally reputable Counsel.
Gurjot Kaur joined New Park Court Chambers as a tenant in April 2025, having completed her pupillage at the Crown Prosecution Service in the North East.
Despite starting her pupillage during the global pandemic in 2020, Gurjot qualified as a Crown Prosecutor in 2021. Throughout her pupillage, Gurjot prosecuted a variety of cases in the Magistrates’ Courts, as well as committals for sentence in the Crown Court. She was also recognised by the former DPP, Max Hill KC, for her ‘exceptional service to witnesses’ whilst conducting trials.
In 2022, she became a Senior Crown Prosecutor in the Magistrates’ Court Advocacy team, where she prosecuted numerous matters including assaults, sexual offences, dishonesty offences, driving offences, amongst others.
Gurjot dealt with more complex cases, including trials involving intermediaries and youth trials involving modern slavery. Gurjot also conducted a witness deposition for a reluctant victim in a s.18 GBH in the Magistrates’ Court, where she received feedback, highlighting that they were ‘immensely impressed with how Ms Kaur sequenced the questions, phrased the questions, and all-round teased out as much as the witness would disclose that will assist the case.
Gurjot is currently appointed to the Crown Prosecution Service advocate panel at Grade 2.
Prior to pupillage, Gurjot worked as a Senior Legal Practice and Technology Paralegal for a global corporate and commercial law firm. She conducted civil litigation concerning Regulation EC 261/2004 and reviewed documents regarding their privilege status for disclosure purposes.
Gurjot is passionate about giving back and assisting the future generation of the Bar. As Northumbria University alumni, Gurjot often participates in Q&A lectures for first year law students and delivers sessions to Bar Students, as part of their Professional Practice and Ethics Guest Lectures series. Gurjot regularly works with ‘Speed Mooting,’ an organisation which hosts various advocacy and mooting competitions for law students/graduates.
