Christopher Rose practises in high level, serious and complex crime. He is a hugely experienced trial advocate, appearing in criminal courts across the country. He acts as a leader and is often himself led by Queen’s Counsel. His work encompasses homicide, serious organised crime and serious sexual offending.

Complimentary to his criminal practice, Christopher specialises in professional disciplinary work. He is regularly instructed to represent professionals accused of misconduct by their regulators.

Christopher’s criminal practice has a heavy emphasis upon organised crime. He both prosecutes and defends and his practice includes cases of homicide, large-scale drug supply, serious firearms offences and sexual offending. A level 4 Prosecutor for the CPS, he is regularly instructed by the CPS’s Complex Case Unit and is a member of the CPS Serious Crime Panel.

Notable Cases

Christopher’s professional disciplinary work includes representing health care practitioners at disciplinary hearings and coroner’s inquests. He presents on behalf of the GMC and regularly appears on behalf of Registrants before the NMC. Christopher also represents police officers accused of misconduct, having previously acted as an independent legal advisor for police disciplinary panels.

  • GMC v ZB (2019)

    Represented the GMC in a 4-week fitness to practise hearing in the MPTS involving an expert witness accused of preparing dishonest reports.

  • GMC v MQ (2019)

    Led by Simon Jackson QC on behalf of the GMC in a 3-month fitness to practise hearing in the MPTS involving a ‘celebrity eye surgeon’ accused of misconduct.

  • GMC v HA (2018)

    Represented the GMC in fitness to practise proceedings in the MPTS involving a Consultant Ophthalmologist accused of misconduct.

  • GMC v AM (2017)

    Represented the GMC in disciplinary proceedings against a psychiatrist accused of historic child sexual abuse.

  • South Yorkshire Police v CJ (2016)

    Represented a Police Sergeant accused of assaulting a suspect in proceedings before a Misconduct Hearing and the Police Appeals Tribunal.

  • Re: TS (2015)

    Represented a retired Custody Sergeant in lengthy inquest proceedings into the death in custody of a vulnerable detainee.

  • NMC v LR (2015)

    Representation of nurse accused of assaulting vulnerable patient in a secure hospital.

Publications & Speaking

Formerly a Senior Lecturer within the Law School at Northumbria University, Christopher retains a keen interest in legal education and served as a chief examiner for the Bar Standards Board. He continues to write for academic journals, including the Journal of Criminal Law and Covert Policing Review, and between 2010 and 2014 was a co-editor of Jordan’s Magistrates’ Courts Criminal Practice.

Christopher provides training in areas of law. He has provided a number of bespoke courses to a range of government agencies, including the Gangmasters Licensing Authority, the Department of Work and Pensions and the Sussex Police Force, as well as seminars to firms of solicitors.
