Susannah has 14 years experience in criminal defence work having been a solicitor and partner at large regional practice before joining Chambers in 2018. Susannah has been an advocate in the Crown Court since 2010 and has extensive trial experience representing clients in serious violent and sexual offences, money laundering and fraud matters.
In addition, Susannah has experience and expertise in Coroner’s Inquests and HSE work including sensitive cases involving fatalities.
Acted as solicitor advocate in the defence of one of the first prosecutions under the new domestic violence and controlling behaviour legislation. The defendant was acquitted of all charges by the court following a direction by the Judge.
Acted on behalf of the Respondent who was subject to an application by the police for a Domestic Violence Protection Order. Successfully opposed the application at a contested hearing and a DVPO was not made.
Defence of a man alleged to have threatened to kill his partner and allegedly committing an assault. The case was complicated by the defendant’s previous conviction for murdering his wife. The defendant was acquitted.
Multi-handed drugs conspiracy to supply drugs, class A, B and C. The case was listed for three weeks.
Historical sexual assault claims by multiple complainants including digital penetration.
Allegation of wounding by a wife against her husband following long term domestic abuse.
Multi-defendant 6 week case at Newcastle Crown Court. The case was heavily reliant upon telephone records and cell site analysis.
Voyeurism and indecent images of children. A case involving lengthy cross examination of an expert witness.
Multi-handed case involving misrepresentation to obtain credit and large scale cultivation of cannabis in fraudulently rented buildings.
Susannah deals with a range of family matters including injunctions under the Family Law Act 1996, care proceedings, private and public law proceedings under the Children Act 1989 representing both local authority and parents, including cases involving serious violent and sexual offences including rape and Forced Marriage Protection Orders.
Susannah has dealt with finding of fact cases including cross examination of serious violence and sexual offences with extensive experience relating to special measures and other technology to support parties and witnesses.
