Jeremy Barton successfully defends a Kurdish national charged with defrauding HMRC of the duty on cigarettes

20/01/2016

The defendant was one of only two men acquitted at Birmingham Crown Court after an eight day trial. The evidence included complex telephone and surveillance material which purported to show the defendant’s association and involvement in the conspiracy. He was arrested in the unit with the cigarettes but denied knowledge or involvement in any criminal activity. The finding was unanimous.
