New Park Court highly recommended in Chambers & Partners 2015

New Park Court is delighted to announce that we are highly recommended for Crime, Financial Crime, Health and Safety, Professional Discipline and Sports Law in the new edition of Chambers and Partners 2015.

Crime: We have “maintained our standing as the pre-eminent criminal set in the North East” and ranked as a Band 1 set.

Members recommended are:

  • Robert Smith QC – “He is peerless; he would be head tutor on the silks masterclass.” “He is an extremely busy silk – gold standard.”
  • Paul Greaney QC – “His attention to detail is second to none; he is very methodical in the way he approaches cases.” “He’s the best; if you can get him you’re lucky because there will be no one else in the courtroom who knows the case as well as him.”
  • Alistair MacDonald QC“He is a very good and very persistent advocate.”
  • Nicholas de la Poer – “He is a phenomenal barrister.”
  • Julian Smith – “He gets on well with solicitors; he really gets stuck in and rolls his sleeves up.”

Financial Crime: Simon Phillips QC is recommended as a Band 1 practitioner in “the Regions”. He “has a strong financial crime practice focused on prosecuting criminal fraud matters and Proceeds of Crime Act cases.”

Health & Safety: Robert Smith QC and Jason Pitter QC are recommended. Mr Smith is a “revered criminal practitioner who is the North Eastern Circuit’s go-to silk for complex health and safety litigation. He covers both defence and prosecution work.” “You can sit in ten-hour conferences with him and he’ll be sharp while everyone else is knackered. He is courteous to a fault too „a true gentleman who is appropriate in his dealings with everyone.”

Mr Pitter “frequently prosecutes cases on behalf of the CPS and HSE” and is “noted for his expertise in health and safety cases concerning fatalities and injuries of maximum severity.”

Professional Discipline: New Park Court is “particularly well regarded for its involvement in regulatory and disciplinary cases in the medical profession. Its members frequently prosecute in fitness to practise tribunals on behalf of the GMC.”

  • Simon Phillips QC – “Handles complex and sensitive professional discipline cases. He receives regular instructions to prosecute cases on behalf of the GMC and is also on the Bar Standards Board’s panel of prosecution counsel.”
  • Jason Pitter QC – “Prosecutes and defends healthcare practitioners before the GDC and GMC. He is also active in police misconduct tribunals, and has significant involvement in associated criminal cases.”
  • Sharon Beattie – “Regularly acts on behalf of the GMC in regulatory cases involving complex and technical medical evidence.”

Sport: Paul Greaney QC “Acts for governing bodies in disciplinary cases, most notably in football, where he acted for the FA in the high-profile Luis Suarez v Patrice Evra case.” They were “impressed with how he set out his case from the start. He knew where he was going and got there.”
