Simon Jackson QC, leading Ryan Donoghue, acted for the General Medical Council in misconduct proceedings brought against two doctors, Dr Helen Webberley and Dr Michael Webberley before Fitness Practice Tribunals of the MPTS.
Both hearings involved allegations of sub-standard care in the provision of treatment to transgender children and adolescents. The hearing of Dr Michael Webberley also involved allegations of the provision of regimens of androgen (‘stacking’) treatments in the absence of proper clinical indication, allegations of dishonesty related to those treatments, and also an allegation of seeking to avoid regulatory scrutiny in the operation of a private online GP clinic, namely GenderGP, previously operated by both doctors.
The doctors’ fitness to practice hearings were heard by separate tribunals of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal. The tribunals separately found that each doctor’s fitness to practise was impaired by reason of their individual misconduct. The Dr Helen Webberley tribunal imposed a two-month suspension of her registration, by way of sanction. The Dr Michael Webberley tribunal imposed the sanction of erasure of his registration.
