Brian McIntyre, known as BoMac, is a world renowned boxing trainer. In August 2023, he travelled to the UK to train Chris Eubank jr for his fight with Liam Smith on 2nd September 2023. On 3rd September 2023, as he attempted to fly home to the US, a handgun and ammunition were discovered within BoMac’s hold luggage. He was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and ammunition. He pleaded guilty. At the sentencing hearing before the Recorder of Manchester, several witnesses were called including Terence “Bud” Crawford, the best pound for pound boxer in the world. The Recorder found exceptional circumstances justifying a departure from the normal minimum term of 5 years’ imprisonment. A suspended sentence was imposed.
