Claire Anderson is a junior practitioner who has a particular focus on criminal law.

Claire has experience of being a ‘led-junior’ in a number of high profile cases, including R v S (Prosecution junior in a six week multi-handed trial involving sexual allegations against vulnerable women) and R v M (Defence junior in a murder/ conspiracy to commit GBH). She has also acted as independent counsel in HMRC investigations and as a disclosure junior on numerous occasions. Claire has extensive experience of the disclosure regime in criminal cases, in particular of highly sensitive material, including those covering Covert Human Intelligence Sources.

She has also represented the interests of a variety of agencies, including the Crown Prosecution Service, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Department for Work and Pensions and the Environment Agency.


Claire has appeared in the Youth and Magistrates’ Court although her practice is now predominantly prosecuting and defending in the Crown Court. She is a CPS Level 3 prosecutor and has an established Crown Court practice with experience in a variety of cases including dishonesty and drugs offences, to sexual offending and violent offences including GBH and murder.

  • R v DA & ZA (2019)

    Prosecution junior in a multi-handed conspiracy to supply cannabis case.

  • R v OS (2018)

    Prosecution junior in a six-week multi-handed trial involving sexual allegations against vulnerable women.

  • R v MM, AV & MM (2018)

    Prosecuted a 3 handed conspiracy to supply Class B drugs.

  • R v MA (2018)

    Prosecution junior in a trial where numerous vulnerable women had made sexual allegations against their landlord.

  • R v GS (2018)

    Successfully defended GS, who was charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine.

  • R v LM (2017)

    Defence junior representing the interests of LM, who was charged with conspiracy to commit GBH. It was alleged that she had asked family members to assault her partner. Her partner then died as a result of the assault.

  • R v SO (2017)

    Defence junior in a long-running multi-handed case where numerous males were accused of committing various offences on young, vulnerable women. SO was acquitted of the sexual offences.

Claire has appeared at the First Tier tribunal in a variety of appeals. She is also registered to represent the interests of the Secretary of State for the Home Department at Immigration Appeals.

Claire is regularly instructed to represent clients with a history of mental health difficulties and has a NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness.

Claire has experience of Family Law matters, including Non- Molestation Orders and Contact Arrangement Orders.

Publications & Speaking

On behalf of Chambers, Claire has assisted in the presentation of seminars for local solicitors. She is an associate lecturer at Northumbria University, teaching on the LLB and BPTC modules. She is also a member of the Centre for Criminal and Civil Evidence at Northumbria University. She regularly attends seminars of a variety of topics, in order to develop her knowledge and understanding of more obscure areas of the law. For a number of years, she has also attended local schools in order to assist them in preparing for the National Mock Schools Competition.
