Nicholas Lumley QC, Jason Pitter QC and Adam Birkby appear in Canal ‘mystery body’ murder case

Nicholas Lumley QC led Adam Birkby in the prosecution of two brothers charged with the murder of fellow Polish national Marcin Siarczylski, whose initially unidentifiable decomposed body was found by the Leeds Canal in Ravensthorpe receiving significant publicity. A public enquiry led to the arrest of brothers Pawel and Krystof Olszewski, who were the deceased’s housemates, and were alleged to have confessed to the killing to associates.

Following a trial at Leeds Crown Court, Pawel Olszewski, represented by Jason Pitter QC leading Jim Littlehales (Switalski’s, Leeds) was acquitted of murder and manslaughter. Krystof Olszewski was convicted of murder and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.
